Private Rioja Day from San Sebastian: Briones, 15th-Century Cellar, Haro, Labastida
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
San SebastianA relaxed private day meant to explain Rioja, from funky modern wineries to classic styles and long-established traditions. Three wineries make up the route: one guided winery visit and two guided tastings, at an easy pace with room for questions. The local guide tells the stories behind Rioja's history, its labels and styles, and how the region is changing today, without lectures or jargon. The approach is personal and informal, the wines are carefully chosen, and the focus stays on clarity, enjoyment and quality. By the end, the day has covered what Rioja is, where it comes from and where it is heading.

Briones
The day opens in Briones, a medieval town on a hilltop above the vineyards. A walk through its quiet streets and a stop at the Rioja lookout show the mountains, the wide valley and the role of the Ebro River in shaping Rioja's climate and wines. Walking visit, no tasting.
Cenicero
In Cenicero, a small modern wine project works inside a 15th-century winery. The visit goes through an underground cellar and the long history of Rioja winemaking. The natural, expressive wines come from vines over 100 years old and are poured in a guided tasting. Guided winery visit and tasting included.
Villabuena de Alava
Near Villabuena de Álava, a family-owned winery where wine is still a hands-on craft. A guided tasting explains how to read Rioja labels, what the classifications mean and how styles differ. Guided winery tasting included.
Barrio de la Estacion de Haro
In Haro's Barrio de la Estación, a classic winery founded at the end of the 19th century. Traditional Rioja aged in American oak barrels is tasted here, along with why that style became so influential in Spain and abroad. Guided winery tasting included.
Labastida
The day finishes in Labastida with a traditional lunch at a small restaurant run by two sisters, popular with locals and winemakers from nearby villages. The menu is classic Rioja dishes made with local produce, paired with village wines.
