This private day trip takes you from Porto into the UNESCO-listed Douro Valley with a local guide who knows the region's history, customs and wines well. The route avoids the obvious stops and favors small producers, where the talk is about the people behind each bottle, property and village. The day centers on a family winery. Lunch is served there, paid separately, with seasonal local dishes presented in a contemporary way. In the afternoon there is time to walk the estate and taste DOC Douro wines and port. The pace is unhurried, with stops in historic villages and along the valley roads for photographs.

Porto
Your private guide collects you at your Porto hotel in the morning and drives you to the Douro Valley, home of Portugal's best-known wines and of long views over the river slopes.
Northern Portugal
The route passes through historic Douro villages, with pauses to photograph the landscape. At a small traditional family winery you taste DOC Douro wines and regional products in season, and can ask how such an estate is run.
Valenca Do Douro
The drive follows one of the best-known stretches of the N 222 road, with wide views of the Douro landscape.
Peso Da Regua
Lunch (not included) is served at a winery, with local food in a reinvented, contemporary style.
Lamego
After the meal comes a second tasting, this time with port. You also visit the family estate where you ate and taste its wines with the vineyards in view.
Porto
At the end of the day you ride back to your Porto hotel.
