This private full-day tour introduces South African wine and shows how it is made here compared with the rest of the world. The route runs through the Western Cape winelands, with tastings at wine estates set against mountain backdrops. The day is about more than the glass. Wines are paired with cheese, biltong (beef jerky), olives and delicatessen items, and the story of the French Huguenots, who brought wine production to the region in 1671, comes up along the way. Three towns frame the day. Stellenbosch has oak-lined streets, art and craft, and a busy student population from around the world. Franschhoek calls itself the food and wine capital of South Africa. Paarl is one of the country's oldest towns and sits beside one of the two largest rock outcrops in the world.
