Transport on this day trip is private, shared with no other travelers. The operator, touridenorthportugal, steers away from the busiest, most commercial wineries and picks smaller, family-run ones, which is a closer look at everyday Portuguese culture. The guide acts more as a local friend than a lecturer, introducing a region the operator is proud of. Lunch is a proper sit-down meal paired with Douro wines, and the team adjusts to what each guest needs.

  1. Porto

The tour is private once booked. It suits anyone who mostly prefers dry Douro table wines, though port is part of the day too. Pickup is at 8:30 AM at your accommodation in Porto or nearby, which avoids an early start and the rush hour. The drive to the Douro Valley takes about 1:30 hours, with a stop in Amarante, 45 minutes away, for regional products.

  2. Amarante

A typical tavern in Amarante serves green wine, white and red, with regional cheese and ham.

  3. Celeiros

After about 40 minutes beyond Amarante, a family winery presents its Douro wines, white and red, and its port in the cellar. Lunch follows with typical Portuguese dishes, with vegetarian options and other restrictions catered for. Restrictions must be given at the time of booking.

  4. Pinhao

A 20-minute drive with wide views leads to Pinhão, in the heart of the Douro Valley. The guide asks in advance whether you prefer a trip on a traditional Rabelo boat or a second winery with more wines.

  5. Porto

The return to Porto leaves between 15:30 and 16:00 to miss rush hour, leaving the late afternoon free in the city. The drive back takes around 1:30 hours.
