Lucca Departure: Small Group Day in Siena and San Gimignano with Chianti Cellar Tasting
Departing from outside Lucca's train station, this small-group day tour heads into the hills for Siena and San Gimignano, with a winemaker's cellar in between. The drive runs through Tuscan countryside, and a small group means the guide has more time for each person. In San Gimignano there are the tallest of the medieval towers and shops full of colorful pottery. Siena brings the story of the Palio horse race and a walk to the Piazza del Campo, with a local guide paid separately on the day (25 euro per adult, children free). The wine stop is a guided Chianti tasting at a well-known estate.

Palazzo Pubblico e Torre Grossa
San Gimignano comes first. Its old medieval towers stand over the town, and ceramic shops line the streets. Gelato is available at the place where "Tea with Mussolini" was filmed. In free time, the small history museum displays a faithful reproduction of a 14th-century tower. The group then stops at a wine cellar between the two towns. The winemaker introduces his wines in a guided tasting of the Chianti white Vernaccia and a Chianti DOCG, served with bruschetta and pecorino cheese.

Piazza del Campo
After the tasting the route reaches Siena, a medieval town built among hills. The Siena guide, paid separately on the day, walks the group through narrow medieval streets into the historic center and to the Piazza del Campo, one of the most remarkable medieval squares in Europe, shaped like a shell as ancient theaters were. Siena also has one of the most monumental cathedrals in Italy, open to visit in free time.
