Alba Truffle Hunt and Barolo Tasting: 4-Hour Langhe Tour with Truffle Dog
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
Langhe-Roero and MonferratoThis 4-hour tour leaves from Alba, or from a hotel nearby, and a guide stays with the group throughout. It pairs the two products Piedmont is proudest of: the truffle and Barolo. The day has two hosts besides the guide. A truffle hunter works the woods with his dog, and a Barolo producer takes over in the cellar. Each explains their own trade, and the drive through the Langhe hills connects the two. The truffle hunt is sometimes shared with a few other guests. The limit is deliberate: truffle woods are fragile ground, and recent climate change has put them at risk.

Alba International White Truffle Fair
The tour starts at Alba train station, or at a nearby hotel. About 20 minutes by car puts the group in the middle of Barolo wine country.
Langhe landscapes
The guide drives the panoramic wine roads through the Barolo production area, spread over eleven municipalities where Nebbiolo grapes are grown. The Langhe hills are part of Italy's 50th UNESCO World Heritage site, a patchwork of vineyards dotted with medieval towers, castles and small villages. There are photo stops, and the guide explains details of the region that a quick look would miss.
Comune di Monforte d'Alba
Next is an off-the-beaten-track boutique winery that puts quality and family tradition first. In the cellar, guests taste four premium wines, including two different Barolos.
