Kelowna & Okanagan ValleyMetropolis Wine Tours takes guests to five West Kelowna wineries on this tour, each with award-winning wines and views over local vineyards and Okanagan Lake. The five come from a list that may include Crown & Thieves, Frind, Mt Boucherie, Indigenous World, Black Swift, Quails Gate, The Hatch, Volcanic Hills, Off the Grid and Rollingdale. The operator encourages costumes. Pick a theme and wear it; Halloween is not the only date, and International Talk Like a Pirate Day on September 19th works too. Crown & Thieves
A winery styled after the Roaring 20s, with a view that recalls old-world charm.
Frind Estate Winery
North America's first beach winery, on the historic Bennett Property in West Kelowna. Markus Frind bought it in 2017 after selling Plenty of Fish, combining technology with a farming family history. Tastings come with a lake view.
Mt. Boucherie Estate Winery
The Okanagan/Similkameen sits at the northern limit of wine growing. A shorter growing season makes the vines work to ripen fruit, which raises grape quality and gives wines that are distinctly British Columbian.
Quails' Gate Winery
Its 160 acres lie below the extinct volcano of Mount Boucherie. Volcanic rock has broken down into soil that plants can easily use, making some of the richest farmland anywhere.
Black Swift Vineyards
Black Swift and Screaming Frenzy were conceived in 2014 at a production facility in Peachland. The name comes from the Black Swift bird, which lays one egg at a time, like the winery's single-vineyard releases. A group of these birds is called a "Screaming Frenzy".
The Hatch
The Hatch is open from 11 to 6 every day.
Volcanic Hills Estate Winery
Grapes are grown sustainably, with minimal intervention in the winery, so each vintage shows the terroir of the Okanagan Valley.
Off The Grid Organic Winery
A family-owned permaculture winery with a straw bale, solar-powered tasting room and an artisan gift shop. Goats live on the roof, alongside sheep, chickens and other farm animals, and a pizzeria food truck serves food.
Rollingdale Winery
A small, fully family-owned farm gate winery in Lakeview Heights, West Kelowna, making fine wines from carefully cultivated premium grapes.
Off The Grid Organic Winery
An organic winery with wide views and an animal rescue farm, home to the mayor of chickenville.
Ciao Bella Winery
A small Italian family winery pouring a selection of its best wines. Gelato is also on offer.
Kalala Organic Estate Winery
An organic winery with very affordable Okanagan wines.
